This specimen was lot 2098 in Goldberg sale 93 (Los Angeles, September 2016), where it sold for $199.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Newfoundland. 50 Cents, 1885 NGC VF30. Victoria. NGC graded VF-30. From the Aurora Family Collection." This type was struck at London (shown here) and Heaton intermittently 1870-1900. Mintages are generally low but it is readily available in grades up to Fine. Newfoundland was admitted into the Dominion of Canada in 1949 and her separate coinage ceased.
Recorded mintage: 40,000 (a better date but not rare).
Specification: 11.78 g, 0.925 fine silver, .350 troy oz ASW, 32 mm diameter.
