This specimen was lot 40048 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $1,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. Newfoundland. 2 Dollars, 1885. PCGS MS-63 Secure Holder." This type was struck for Newfoundland in limited numbers 1865-88 and is fairly available in circulated condition. This date brings a 10% premium over the common date (1888) but is scarce in high grade.
