This specimen was lot 30404 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $1,645. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Elizabeth II Proof Penny 1962 PR66 Red Cameo NGC. A phenomenal example of this issue with completely reflective surfaces that are ablaze in golden and amber luster. Outstanding from every angle and with undeniable eye-appeal. Rare in proof, and even more so in this jewel-like state." The reverse of this type, struck in large numbers 1956-65, features the tui bird first used on the penny of 1940. Decimalization in 1965-66 terminated the denomination.

Recorded mintage: 6,000,000 plus a few proofs.
