Jean Elsen sale 149, lot 1978

This specimen was lot 1978 in Jean Elsen sale 149 (Brussels, December 2021), where it sold for €250 (about US$339 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NEDERLAND, Koninkrijk, Beatrix (1980-2014), AV 10 euro, 2006. Het Belasting Tientje. In doosje. Gepolijste Stempel. (kingdom of the Netherlands, Beatrix, 1980-2014, gold ten euro of 2006, bicentennial of the tax office. In capsule, Proof.)"

This denomination is used exclusively for commemoratives and is not legal tender outside the Netherlands. We are baffled as to why the regime thought this bicentennial worth celebrating.

Recorded mintage: 5,500 proofs.

Specification: 6.72 g, 0.900 fine gold, 22.5 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM 292, Fr-368.
