Nassau in 1786

This specimen was lot 1460 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 3,000 (about US$3,953 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Dukat 1818. Limburg Kleiner Kopf. Sehr selten, 501 Exemplare geprägt. Fast vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Nassau, ducat of 1818, Limburg mint, small head, very rare, 501 struck, choice extremely fine.)"

This one year type is rare. In 1866, the duchy was swallowed up by Prussia and the coinage ended, tho one branch of the family now occupies the throne of the Netherlands.
