Naples (1528-46)-R carlino KM-MB57
This specimen was lot 1727 in Stephen Album sale 38 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "NAPLES: Carlo V, 1516-1556, AR carlino, ND, crowned bust right with CAROLVS IIIII IM RO around with R in field behind portrait // REX / ARAGO / VTRIVS / SI ET within leaf wreath, obverse double struck, very nicely toned, a lovely example! Choice EF, R." Carlo V, also king of Spain and emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, ruled Naples and Sicily until his abdication in 1556. The imperial crown went to the Austrian branch while the Spanish branch obtained the Hapsburg possessions in Italy, most importantly Milan and Naples.
