Aureo y Calicó sale 448, lot 150

This specimen was lot 150 in Aureo y Calicó sale 448 (Barcelona, March 2025), where it sold for 550 € (about US$719 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "n/d. Carlos I. Naples. IBR. 1 carlino. Obv.: CAROLVS V ROM IM. Rev.: REX●ARAGO●VTRI●R●SI●. Very rare in this condition. S/C- [about uncirculated]. Ex Cisneros Collection, Áureo 05/28/1991, no. 676. Ex Balsach Collection." This type was struck in several varieties (KM MB47, MB55). One piastre made twelve carlini. The Aragonese unified Naples and Sicily in 1442, only to have them separate again in 1458. Ferdinand of Aragon reconquered Naples for the Spanish crown in 1504 and Naples and Sicily together remained Spanish until the extinction of the Hapsburgs in 1700.
