This specimen was lot 72642 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUSCAT AND OMAN. 50 Baisa, AH 1359 (1940). NGC PROOF-63 Cameo. KM-24. Struck for use in Dhofar Province. A type not often seen, this example features mirrored surfaces and a deeper tone, along with some scattered marks consistent with the grading level." The sultan, Said ibn Taimur, was overthrown in 1970 by his son, who renamed the country plain Oman. Dhofar province lies in the south of the country. This one year type is common altho some rare gold proofs exist.

Recorded mintage: 65,000 plus proofs.
