This specimen was lot 73288 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $528. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUSCAT AND OMAN. 20 Baisa, AH 1359 (1940). NGC PROOF-64. Sharply struck and immensely reflective with light tone over the obverse. Close inspection shows a subtle iridescence in the fields, indicative of lacquer that was applied during the production process." The sultan, Said ibn Taimur, was overthrown in 1970 by his son, who renamed the country plain Oman. This series was issued for Dhofar province, which lies in the south of the country. This one year type is common altho some rare gold proofs exist. It was accompanied by ten baisa (KM 22) and 50 baisa (KM 24).

Recorded mintage: 35,000 + restrikes + a few in gold.
