Muscat and Oman AH 1359 10 baisa
This specimen was lot 72643 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUSCAT AND OMAN. 10 Baisa, AH 1359 (1940). NGC PROOF-63 Cameo. Restrike issue; struck for use in Dhofar province. Some scattered hairlines consistent with the designation, but an otherwise brilliant proof issue with a high degree of luster and exceptionally mirrored fields." The sultan, Said ibn Taimur, was overthrown in 1970 by his son, who renamed the country plain Oman. Dhofar province lies in the south of the country. This one year type is common altho some rare gold proofs exist.
