This specimen was lot 74549 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2024), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Munster. 24 Mariengroschen, 1693-JO. Frederick Christian. NGC VF-25. Lightly handled and deeply toned, this piece yields good eye appeal and allure throughout." This type was struck 1692-94 and is fairly scarce. Two-thirds thaler equaled one gulden equaled 24 mariengroschen. The bishopric of Munster went over to Protestantism in the sixteenth century but was reclaimed for the Church by several reforming Wittelsbach bishops, most notably Ernst of Bavaria, who was also archbishop of Cologne and prince-bishop of Liege. Friedrich Christian von Plettenberg (1644-1706) was not a Wittelsbach but held the throne 1688-1706.
