Munster 1693-IO ducat Fr-1777
This specimen was lot 536 in Künker Auction 424 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €24,000 (about US$33,984 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · MÜNSTER, BISTUM Friedrich Christian von Plettenberg, 1688-1706. Dukat 1693, Münster. FRIDERICUS · CHRISTIANUS · D : GEP . MONAST · Brustbild r. in geistlichem Ornat//BVRGGR · STROMB · S · R · I · PRIN · D · IN · BORCK · 1693 Gekröntes und verziertes, ovales sechsfeldiges Wappen (Stromberg, Münster, Borkelo / Borkelo, Münster, Stromberg) mit dem Familienwappen von Plettenberg als Mittelschild, dahinter Krummstab und Schwert gekreuzt, zu den Seiten die geteilte Signatur I - O (Johann Odendahl, Münzmeister in Münster 1692-1696). GOLD. Äußerst selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Kl. Schrötlingsfehler im Feld der Rückseite, vorzüglich/Stempelglanz. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 229, Osnabrück 2013, Nr. 5964. (Germany, bishopric of Münster, Friedrich Christian von Plettenberg, 1688-1706, ducat of 1693, Münster mint. Obverse: bust right in bishop's robes; reverse: crowned, oval six-fold arms of Stromberg, Münster and Borkelo with the escutcheon of Plettenberg, over a crossed crozier and sword, initials below. Extremely rare, especially in this condition, cabinet example, planchet defect on the reverse, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
