Künker sale 424, lot 529

This specimen was lot 529 in Künker Auction 424 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €17,000 (about US$24,072 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · MÜNSTER, BISTUM Christoph Bernhard von Galen, 1650-1678. 2 Dukaten o. J. (1661-1678), Münster. * CHRIST : BERN : D · G · EPIS · & PRINCEPS · MONAS Gekröntes und verziertes, achtfeldiges Wappen (Corvey, Münster, Stromberg / Borkelo - Corvey / Stromberg, Münster, Borkelo) mit dem Familienwappen von Galen als Mittelschild, dahinter Krummstab und Schwert gekreuzt//AVE · MARIA - GRATIA · PLENA Gekrönte Madonna mit Zepter in der Rechten und dem Kind auf dem linken Arm thront v. v. GOLD. Von größter Seltenheit. Attraktives Exemplar mit schöner Goldtönung, kl. Stempelfehler, vorzüglich. Exemplar der Slg. Extremely rare, attractive example with fine gold toning, minor die defect, extremely fine.)"

Under von Galen's energetic administration, Münster began to recover from the devastation of the Thirty Years War. This issue was accompanied by a single ducat (Fr-1769).
