Mulhausen in Thuringia, west of Schwarzburg

This specimen was lot 2539 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "MÜHLHAUSEN: Free City, AR 1/24 thaler, 1767, a wonderful example, PCGS graded MS64." There are two towns named Muhlhausen in Germany; one now in French Alsace, and this one in Thuringia, between Eichsfeld and Schwarzburg. Long an imperial free city, it was mediatized to Prussia in 1802. This issue accompanied a 2 pfenninge (KM 70), 3 pfenninge (KM 56.2), 2/3 thaler (KM 74), 1/12 thaler (KM 73), 6 pfenninge (KM 57.2) and thaler (KM 75). None are common.
