This issue minted in Lisbon for the Portuguese colony of Mozambique, is one of a type struck 1949-50. Previous issues were dated 1936 and 1941 and subsequent issues are dated 1961 and 1973-74. The coin is common. In the mid-1960's, nationalists in Mozambique began their agitation for independence, triggering a multifactional war that continued after the Portuguese withdrew in 1975.
