This specimen was lot 71349 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "MONTENEGRO. Para, 1906. PCGS MS-64 Red Brown Gold Shield. A sharply struck and lustrous Para with a dark, red brick color." In 1906, officials in Montenegro had struck one para (shown here), two pare (KM 2), ten para (KM 3), twenty para (KM 4) for the young nation. Other denominations were added in 1910-14. Montenegro was incorporated into Yugoslavia in 1918-19. This type was struck 1906 only and is rather scarce.
