Stack's Bowers November 2022 Collectors Choice sale, lot 75391

This specimen was lot 75391 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "MONGOLIA. 500 Tugrik, 2007. PCGS MS-69. Wolverine design with crystal eyes. An exquisite example of the type." This denomination was used for numerous NCLT's in 2007 (KM 212, 265, 266, 267, 268, 269, 322 and 325). This is an early example of the fad for affixing foreign objects (Swarovski crystals in this case) to coins. It was struck at B. H. Mayer’s Kunstprägeanstalt in Munich. The denomination is sometimes spelled 500 tögrög.
