Mexico 2018 onza oro
This specimen was part of lot 1731 in Jean Elsen sale 151 (Brussels, June 2022), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$3,748 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"MEXIQUE, Etats-Unis (1905-), série de 5 p. en or: 1 once, 1/2 once, 1/4 once, 1/10 once et 1/20 once 2018. Libertad. Dans un écrin en bois Banco de Mexico. Numérotée 444. Flan poli. (United States of Mexico, since 1905, series of five pieces in gold: one ounce, half ounce, quarter ounce, tenth ounce and twentieth ounce of 2018, Liberty. Includes wood box from the Bank of Mexico numbered 444. Proof.)"
Mexico began production of gold one ounce bullion coins to compete with the South African krugerrand. Fractionals are much scarcer. This type has been struck in limited numbers since 2000, with reverse proofs added in 2018.
Recorded mintage: 2,050 plus 1,000 proofs plus 1,000 reverse proofs.
Specification: 31.10 g, 0.999 fine gold, 1.000 troy oz AGW, 34.5 mm diameter.
