Mexico began production of gold one ounce bullion coins to compete with the South African krugerrand. Fractionals, including this quarter ounce, are much scarcer. There have been several design changes and this type is recorded for 2000-23. This specimen was lot 1286 in Goldberg sale 116 (Los Angeles, June 2020), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico. ¼ Onza, 2016. Winged Victory. Brilliant Uncirculated."

Recorded mintage: 1,000 + 2,100 proofs.

Specification: 7.78 g, 0.999 fine gold, 23 mm diameter, reeded edge.
