This specimen was lot 73642 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/4 Onza, 2020-Mo. Mexico City Mint. NGC MS-68. Satin, champagne gold surfaces glimmer throughout this piece, enchanting the eye." Mexico began production of gold one ounce bullion coins to compete with the South African krugerrand. Fractionals, including this quarter ounce, are much scarcer. There have been several design changes and this type is recorded for 2000-23.
Recorded mintage: 700 plus 250 proofs.
