Stack's Bowers May 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 34430
SB524-34430r.jpg

This specimen was lot 34430 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Gold 1/2 Onza, 2020-Mo. Mexico City Mint. NGC MS-69. Displaying an almost Matte like finish, the present example is rather stunning in hand." In 1982, the mint of Mexico introduced the silver Libertad to great success and extended it with 1/10, 1/4, half, two and five ounce versions. The sales of gold libertads have not been so overwhelming and some are now rare. This one, first minted in 2000, is scarce.

Recorded mintage: unknown but likely a few thousand at most.

Specification: 15.55 g, 0.999 fine gold, 29 mm diameter, 0.500 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-179a, KM-674 (Unlisted date).
