Ponterio sale 169, lot 11274

The first specimen was lot 11274 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $764. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Real, 1824-MoJM. "Hook Neck". PCGS AU-55. Well struck. Golden toning." This is the only known date for a half real of the "hook-neck" style; it is fortunate that it is reasonably common in circulated condition. It was replaced by the facing eagle type in 1825 from Mexico City (KM 370.9) and Guadalajara (KM 370.5).
