This specimen was lot 71469 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1823-Mo JM. Mexico City Mint. Augustin I Iturbide. PCGS AU-50. Always a popular type from this short series, especially as a straight-graded coin, this example sports honest, even wear and attractive concentric peripheral toning that goes from russet to cobalt." This is the last of the Iturbide eight reales, issued before he was overthrown and a republic established. It uses the same reverse as KM 309 of 1822 but the bust is taken from the eight scudos (note the ragged truncaton of the neck).
