Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70283

This specimen was lot 70283 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1822-Mo JM. Mexico City Mint. Augustin I Iturbide. NGC AU-53. Type V, with short, uneven truncation. This handsome and nicely preserved example exhibits even wear with light gray tone and richer coloration in the peripheries." This is the last of the Iturbide eight reales, issued before he was overthrown and a republic established. It uses the same reverse as KM 309 of 1822 but the bust is taken from the eight scudos (note the ragged truncaton of the neck).
