CNG Lissner sale, lot 1885

This specimen was lot 1885 in Classical Numismatic Group's auction of the Richard Lissner collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $2,722.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO, Primera Imperio Mexicano. Agustín de Iturbide. 1822-1823. AR Real. Ciudad de México (Mexico City) mint. José Garcia Ansaldo and Joaquin Davila Madrid, assayers. Dated 1822 Mo JM. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 63. Moderate charcoal and iridescent gray and blue patina. Highest graded for the type. Struck only one year. Purchased from Louis Collins, February 1974." This type is known for 1822 only and is scarcer than the similar half and two reales. This specimen sold for over triple the catalog value.
