This specimen was lot 25117 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos III gold 4 Escudos 1786-Mo FM, VF30 "Eliasberg" NGC, evenly worn, no fine detail left, but on a nice flan having choice surfaces and toned a lovely reddish gold color." This Mexican type was struck 1773-88, and tho less rare than the "rat nose" type of 1762-71, is still expensive. The purity was reduced from 0.901 fine to 0.875 fine in 1785.
