The first specimen was lot 22739 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1773-FM. Charles III (1760-88). NGC AU-55. Inverted mint mark and assayer's letters. Nice strike with attractive toning." The second specimen was lot 22740 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it sold for $1,762.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1773-FM. Charles III (1760-88). NGC MS-62. Normal mint mark and assayer's letters. Good strike with attractive toning." The inverted mintmark variety was minted 1772-73 in Mexico City during the reign of Charles III, while the upright mintmark appears 1773-89. Assayer FM is recorded for 1772-78.
