Mexico 1760-Mo MM 2 escudos
The first specimen was lot 3142 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $4,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "1760 MM 2 escudos. Mexico City mint. EF-40 (NGC). Types as above. Medium gold, tiny cut on rim at 3:00 relative to the obverse that is visible from both sides, otherwise choice for the level of wear. A rare type on this denomination as well. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942."
All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce. This type was struck 1760-61 only and is the scarcest type with the bust of Charles III.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.917 fine gold, .199 troy oz AGW. This specimen: 6.76 grams, 22.30 mm diameter.
