This specimen was lot 24362 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos III gold 2 Escudos 1760-JV Nuevo Reino, XF45 NGC Huntington Collection, nicely toned with bold details on both sides, scarce early type featuring the King in a curled peruke." This type was struck at Bogotá 1760-62 and at Popayán 1760-71. Five different two escudos were issued in 1760 as each mint issued the denomination in the name of the deceased Ferdinand VI and the succeeding Charles III and assayers J and JV appeared for Nuevo Reino.
