Stack's Bowers 2026 ANA sale, lot 40138

This specimen was lot 40138 in Stack's Bowers Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction (Pittsburgh, August 2026), where it sold for $4,392. The catalog description^[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 8 Escudos, 1760-PN J. Popayan Mint. Charles III (in the name of Ferdinand VI). PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, EF Details. A RARE posthumous issue bearing the titles of Ferdinand VI, issued during the first year of coinage issued under Charles III at the Popayan Mint. Exhibiting some evidence of cleaning as noted, but not overly offensively so, the hairlines scattered and not especially concentrated. Some reddish toning has begun to develop, and a bold strike reveals ample detail despite the noted wear. From the Charles “Cheech” Litman Collection." This type was struck for Ferdinand VI 1758-60. On the accession of Charles III, the title was changed but the bust of Ferdinand was retained (see Fr-24).
