Sed37-1889r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1889 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO, Mexico City, cob 1 real, 1732 F, ex-Hubbard. Darkly toned VF with bold complete date, clear mintmark and upper left of shield though assayer barely visible, partial cross. Pedigreed to the Clyde Hubbard Collection, with his tag." This type was struck in Mexico City 1701-32 and is scarce with legible dates altho much more common than one real cobs of Charles II. The cobs of 1732 bring more than other dates from collectors who can't afford the very rare pillar one real of 1732. The silver cobs were debased from 0.931 fine to 0.917 fine in 1728.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.34 g, 0.917 fine silver, this specimen 3.00 grams.

Catalog reference: Cayón-8486, S-M26; KM-30; Cal-500.
