This specimen was lot 624 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 38 (Winter Park, FL, November 2025), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO, Mexico City, cob 2 reales, 1732 F. Long, thin, and narrow shape, which is odd for this period, also strangely underweight (but proper fineness, according to XRF, so maybe a contemporary counterfeit?), with bold full date and oMF, some shield and most of cross, toned About Fine." This specimen is a silver cob two reales struck at Mexico City during the conversion to milled coinage. Specimens with clear dates are unusual. This type is separated from KM 35, struck 1701-28, by its lower fineness; the earlier issues were 0.931 fine silver. The cobs from 1732 are reasonably common, the pillar coinage dated 1732 is all rare.
