This specimen was lot 72060 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. Cob 2 Reales, 1732-L. Lima Mint; Assayer Joaquin Negron y Colmenares (N). Philip V. PCGS Genuine--Damage, VF Details. KM-32A; Cal-745. Weight: 6.88 g. A 2 Reales cob struck on a ragged planchet and displaying rough dark surfaces. The date, mintmark, and denomination still display well, making this an appealing piece. From the Pat Johnson Collection. Ex: Sellschopp Collection (UBS Zurich 9/1988) Lot # 231 (part of)." Four reales of this type were struck through the reign of Philip V. Assayer Negron y Colmenares stamped his coins 1728-38. In 1728, the silver cobs were debased from 0.931 fine to 0.917 fine with no change in design. The mintage of gold commenced in 1696.
