This specimen was lot 2070 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $31,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "Plated in Numismática Española, MEXICO. "Royal" Presentation Cob 4 Reales, 1719-Mo J. Mexico City Mint, Assayer Jose de Leon (J). Philip V. NGC VF-35. The only certified example on either the NGC or PCGS population reports. This nicely preserved presentation coin is well-struck with even wear. The surfaces display attractive rich slate patina with lighter tone atop of the devices and minor earthen deposits in the crevasses. Wholesome and original looking, this survivor is very attractive offering a pleasing appearance and good eye appeal. From the Pat Johnson Collection." While regular cob four reales are known for the length of Philip's reign, "royal" or presentation strikes are listed only for 1716, 1719-23. Other dates may exist but all are rare. The fineness was lowered from 0.931 to 0.917 in 1728.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.931 fine silver, this specimen 13.43 g.
