Mexico 1652-Mo P 8 reales
The first specimen shown was lot 125 in Aureo y Calicó sale 242 (Barcelona, March 2012), where it sold for 240 € (about US$373 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Felipe IV (1621-1665). 1652/1. México. P. 8 reales. Muy escasa. MBC-. (Eight reales of 1652/1, very scarce, nearly Very Fine.)"
The second specimen was lot 6210 in in Ponterio sale 154 (Baltimore, June 2010), where it sold for $295. The catalog description[2] noted, "Mexico 8 Reales, (16)52/1-P. Broad flan, full shield and cross. Crude strike. Very Fine." This type was struck 1621-67 in Mexico City and is not rare except in high grade but specimens with legible dates are scarce.
