Mexico 1648-Mo P 8 reales
This specimen was lot 72296 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $3,360. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Cob 8 Reales, 1648-Mo P. Mexico City Mint. Philip IV. PCGS EF-40. This beautifully preserved example boasts a bold shield, mintmark, assayer letter and last two digits of the date. The reverse exhibits a full complete cross with bold lions and castles and a nearly complete octolobe. Displaying lovely old cabinet tone, this piece offers a pleasing appearance with good eye appeal with many desirable attributes. From the S.P. Rutherford Collection." This specimen is a silver cob eight reales struck at Mexico City 1621-67. Assayer "P" is listed for 1634-65. Dated examples are few.
