This specimen was lot 669 in Sedwick sale 34 (Winter Park, FL, November 2023), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico City, Mexico, cob 8 reales, 1646/5 (P), very rare. Broad flan with very bold full 164 of date (last digit messy but fairly certain), bold oM, most of cross and shield despite extensive flatness, Fine overall, toned in crevices." The vast majority of Mexican cobs lack dates, so that examples with legible dates bring four times those without. Assayer "P" served 1634-65.
