Mexico 1646-Mo P 8 reales
This specimen was lot 72295 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Cob 8 Reales, 1646-Mo P. Mexico City Mint. Philip IV. PCGS Genuine--Salt Water Damage, VF Details. A moderately struck Cob with surface roughness due to contact with saltwater. Mintmark and assayer are clear, as are the final two digits of the date. From the S.P. Rutherford Collection." This specimen is a silver cob eight reales struck at Mexico City 1621-67. Assayer "P" is listed for 1634-65. Dated examples are few.
