Mecklenburg-Schwerin 1831 10 thaler Fr-1725
This specimen was lot 1543 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$4,248 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · MECKLENBURG-SCHWERIN, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1815 GROSSHERZOGTUM Friedrich Franz I., 1785-1837. 10 Taler (Doppelpistole) 1831. GOLD. Von großer Seltenheit. Nur 1.938 Exemplare geprägt. Winz. Probierspur am Rand, fast sehr schön. (Germany, grand duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Frederick Francis, 1785-1837, ten thaler or double pistole of 1831. Extremely rare, only 1,938 pieces struck. Traces of tooling on the edge, about very fine.)"
This rare type was struck 1828 and 1831-33 along with a five thaler (Fr-1727). It was equal to a Prussian double friedrichs d'or (Fr-2428).
