Mecklenburg-Schwerin 1835 2-1/2 thaler Fr-1728
This specimen was lot 6098 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €1,800 (about US$ including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"MECKLENBURG-SCHWERIN, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1815 GROSSHERZOGTUM, Friedrich Franz I. 1785-1837. 2 1/2 Taler (1/2 Pistole) 1835. GOLD. Seltener Jahrgang. Nur 195 Exemplare geprägt. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (grand duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Frederick Francis I, 1785-1837, 2½ thaler or half pistole of 1835. Only 195 pieces struck, very fine to extremely fine.)"
This rare type was also struck 1831 and 1835. His successor, Paul Friedrich, also struck this denomination in small numbers (Fr-1732) but his are only very scarce.
