Mecklenburg-Schwerin 1840 2-1/2 thaler Fr-1732
This specimen was lot 6099 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €1,700 (about US$2,197 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"MECKLENBURG-SCHWERIN, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1815 GROSSHERZOGTUM, Paul Friedrich, 1837-1842. 2 1/2 Taler (1/2 Pistole) 1840. GOLD. Nur 2.910 Exemplare geprägt. Fast vorzüglich. (grand duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Paul Frederick, 1837-42, 2½ thaler or half pistole of 1840. Only 2,910 struck, about extremely fine.)"
This scarce type was struck 1840 only. His predeccessor, Friedrich Franz, also struck this denomination in small numbers (Fr-1728) but his are very rare.
