Sincona sale 101, part of lot 3067

This specimen was part of lot 3067 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$3,015 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"MALTA Republik, seit 1974. 50 Pounds 1974, London. Dazu: 20 und 10 Maltesische Pfund 1974, 4 und 2 Maltesische Pfund 1974. Lot von 5 Stück. FDC. (republic of Malta, since 1974, mint set of 1974, London mint, including the 50, 20, ten, four and two pounds of 1974. Mint State, five pieces.)"

The reverse depicts the Cottonera Gate in Vittoriosa. Malta has since joined the EU and adopted the euro, rendering the Maltese pound obsolete.

Recorded mintage: 24,000.

Specification: 20 g, 0.987 fine silver, 38 mm diameter, reeded edge.
