Sincona sale 101, part of lot 3066

This specimen was part of lot 3066 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), which sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$3,015 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"MALTA Elizabeth II. 1952-1974. 50 Pounds 1973, London. Dazu: 20 und 10 Maltesische Pfund 1973, 2 und 1 Maltesische Pfund 1973. Lot von 5 Stück. FDC. (Malta, Elizabeth II, 1952-74, mint set of 1973, London mint, including the 50, 20, ten, two and one pound. Mint State, five pieces.)"

Shown on the reverse is the Gardjola watchtower at Senglea point in the grand harbor. Malta has since joined the EU and adopted the euro, rendering the Maltese pound obsolete.

Recorded mintage: 9,075.

Specification: 3 g, 0.917 fine gold, 19 mm diameter, reeded edge.
