Malta 1972 10 pounds
This specimen was part of lot 3065 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 4,000 CHF (about US$6,029 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"MALTA Elizabeth II. 1952-1974. Set 1972, London. 50, 20, 10 und 5 Maltesische Pfund. Set von 4 Stück. FDC. (Malta, Elizabeth II, 1952-74, mint set of 1974, London mint, including the 50, 20, ten and five pounds. Mint State, four pieces.)"
Numista incorrectly states that these were minted in Rome. Shown on the reverse is a kenur, a traditional Maltese charcoal stove. Patterns exist struck in copper. Malta has since joined the EU and adopted the euro, rendering the Maltese pound obsolete.
Recorded mintage: 16,000.
Specification: 6 g, 0.917 fine gold, 22 mm diameter, reeded edge.
Catalog reference: KM MS2 (set), KM 16 (10 pounds). Fr-50.
