This specimen was lot 3770 in Goldberg sale 70 (Los Angeles, September 2012), where it sold for $1,610. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mali. 100 Francs, ND (1960). On anniversary of independence. Bust of President Modibo Keita. NGC graded Proof 67 Ultra Cameo." Mali is a poverty-stricken former French colony on the edge of the Sahara desert in Africa. The SCWC lists little circulating coinage for the country, which uses the CFA franc. This issue is accompanied by gold twenty-five and fifty francs. Despite being dated 1960, they were actually struck c.1975-77.
