This specimen was lot 34244 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $352.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lucern. Canton 5 Batzen 1810 MS64+ PCGS. Radiant luster with sharp details and almost no instances of post-strike marks. A Gem for all intents and purposes. From the Redwood Collection, Part II." The coinage of the canton of Luzern (sometimes spelled Lucerne) is not so common and this one year type is no exception. Coinage ceased altogether in 1846 with an issue of five rappen. At this time, 10 rappen = one batzen and 10 batzen = one frank and 4 franken = one thaler.
Recorded mintage: 190,238.
Specification: 4.3 g, silver, 25 mm diameter.
