Luzern 1806 5 batzen
This specimen was lot 3419 in Sincona sale 64 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$752 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SWITZERLAND | Lucerne | Stadt und Kanton. 5 Batzen 1806, Luzern. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. FDC. Schwache Ausprägung. (city and canton of Luzern, five batzen of 1806, Luzern mint. Very rare in this condition, Uncirculated, Weak striking.)"
The coinage of the canton of Luzern (sometimes spelled Lucerne) is not so common and this scarce issue is no exception. Coinage ceased altogether in 1846 with an issue of five rappen. At this time, ten rappen = one batzen and ten batzen = one frank and four franken = one thaler.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 4.41 g.
