Sincona sale 87, lot 4109

This specimen was lot 4109 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 650 CHF (about US$875 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Luzern, Viertelgulden (10 Schillinge) 1793, Luzern. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Switzerland, canton of Luzern, quarter gulden or ten schilling of 1793, Luzern mint. Very rare in this condition, Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

The canton of Luzern was one of the less prolific issuers of coins in the Swiss confederation. This scarce two year type (1793 and 1796) accompanied an eighth gulden (KM 81), twenty kreuzer (KM 83) and forty kreuzer (KM 84).
