Luzern 1793 1/8 gulden
This specimen was lot 4110 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,347 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Luzern, Achtelgulden (5 Schilling) 1793, Luzern. Glatter Rand. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Switzerland, canton of Luzern, eighth gulden or five schilling of 1793, Luzern mint, plain edge. Rare in this condition, Extremely fine-uncirculated."
The canton of Luzern was one of the less prolific issuers of coins in the Swiss confederation. This scarce one year type accompanied a quarter gulden (KM 82), twenty kreuzer (KM 83) and forty kreuzer (KM 84).
