Sincona sale 91, lot 3347

This specimen was lot 3347 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 1,700 CHF (about US$2,246 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Luzern, Taler 1714, Luzern. Variante mit SANCTVS links des hl. Leodegar. Stempelschneiderzeichen HL (ligiert) von Johann Carl Hedlinger. Selten. Gutes sehr schön. Kleine Randschläge. Exemplar der Slg. R. Kunzmann, Auktion SINCONA 53, Zürich, Oktober 2018, Los 6445. (Switzerland, canton of Luzern, thaler of 1714, Luzern mint, variety with "SANCTVS" to the left of St. Leodegar. Rare, Good very fine, Minor edge bumps.)"

The year 1714 saw the issue of an extensive series of gold and silver coins, including KM G51 (10 ducat), KM F51 (6 ducat), KM E51 (5 ducat), KM D51 (5 ducat), KM 50 (3 ducat), KM B51 (3 ducat), KM 49 (2 ducat), KM A151 (2 ducat), KM 45 (1/2 batzen), KM 44 (20 kreuzer) and KM 46 (gulden). Stylistically, this rare thaler doesn't match the others so it probably wasn't part of the series.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 27.10 g.
